Blitzen Trapper just posted a brand new video for “Wild Mountain Home”, which is one of my favorite songs this year:
I was just watching that video this weekend actually, after seeing Bon Iver cover it in Eau Claire Thursday night.
While Jeff Buckley’s rendition is probably my favorite, Porter’s was probably the first recorded version to make the song famous.
Be sure to watch until around the 6:12 mark
Thanks to Aaron for the link!
Not like you don’t know this already, but the 7th Street Entry is the place to see bands before they explode. Bands you might never hear on the radio, but if you get yourself downtown on a whim on almost any night, there is usually something relatively profound going on. I don’t have photos or video from last night’s show, but here are a couple links from the rest of the outside world. Enjoy!!
Basia Bulat
Performing Snakes and Ladders at the Ottawa Bluesfest this summer
Final Fantasy
Performing What Do You Think Will Happen Next ?
I know that these don’t always do an artist justice, but the sound quality is great and well - you gotta do some of the work for yourself, right??
In this internet age, I have to wonder why more local bands aren’t making music videos to circulate on the web. It’s a great way to get to know a new band or get up to speed on a familiar act’s latest music, and actually seeing a band in action makes it a hell of a lot easier to relate to them right off the bat. While going out and catching a band live will always be the best way to get a feel for their music and style, videos are a great tool for getting songs out into the blogosphere (hate that word, but couldn’t avoid using it anyway).
Check out this slick new video from White Light Riot:
For more info on the band, see my article from back in July.
